Types of Pipe
Piling Terminology:
Information About Steel Pipe Piling
Piling is defined as a column, usually made of steel, wood, concrete, or plastic, that is driven into the ground to support a structure or building. Steel pipe piling will create a strong foundation for large structures and in situations where shallow soils are not strong enough to support the loads from the structure. Piling pipes are available in a variety of lengths and may consist of several sections that have been joined together using special fittings.
Steel piling pipe can be open at both ends or it can be closed on the bottom end. Piling is most often driven into the ground using various types of specialized equipment. It can also be put into holes that have been drilled deep into the rock or soil.

Rotary Bored Piling
Rotary boring is a common installation technique that is used for larger diameter piling or piling that needs to be bored through hard or stiff strata. The specific methods used when rotary boring piling can vary depending on the site. This technique can be used when boring pilings in wet or dry conditions. When boring pilings in wet conditions, a temporary steel casing is used to prevent water from entering. This temporary casing will then be removed after concrete is placed in. Dry boring uses a similar process, however, the casing is left in place as part of the piling foundation rather than being removed.
